FORT MYERS, Fla.- Mindy McCready walked out of an Arkansas courtroom after a closed-door custody hearing celebrating. She told reporters, "I'm a happy girl."
The Arkansas judge placed a gag order on everyone involved in the case of her son Zander. But McCready still showed her enthusiasm yelling, " I love that man," referring to the judge in the case.
McCready told national media that Zander won't be going back to Florida with his grandmother, Gayle Inge. But local attorneys say that's a long shot.
"Look at the source of the person saying that. I don't think she has that much credibility," says Steve Martin with the Martin Law Firm.
Martin says there's a uniform child custody act that every state follows and the home state judge usually has the final say. In this case, Judge Seals in Lee County.
"She's got a judge here that says Miss Inge has guardianship. She's going over there almost like she's judge shopping," says Martin.
But he says if McCready made any allegations of abuse against Zander's grandmother, then the judge in Arkansas has to investigate.
"I bet that's what she said, that the guardian right now is some sort of risk to the child," he said.
Sources say another hearing is scheduled within the month where both judges will discuss the case.
"She may have a temporary victory in the bottle but shes not going to win the war. If what Judge Seals determined rules the day, she's not going to win," says Martin.
