FORT MYERS, Fla.- On Sunday, the Fort Myers Police Department with assistance from the United States Marshals Office Fugitive task Force located and arrested Joquinn Anthony Tavaris Benjamin, 23, of Fort Myers for the murder of Christopher Ramirez, 22, of Fort Myers that happened on Thanksgiving of this year.
FMPD detectives developed probable cause for Benjamin’s arrest and obtained an arrest warrant with the assistance of the States Attorney's Office in Fort Myers. The United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force located Benjamin at 606 S. Washington Street in Dublin, Georgia Sunday and arrested him without incident.
Benjamin was arrested for second degree murder. Benjamin is currently in custody in Georgia awaiting extradition to Florida.
The Fort Myers Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at 3239 Central Avenue on Thanksgiving morning. Upon arrival police located a blood trail and spent shell casings. Police learned that there had been a drive-by shooting and the victim of the shooting had been driven to Lee Memorial Hospital by way of a personal vehicle.
Ramirez was pronounced dead at the hospital.
