BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate a suspicious house fire in Bonita Springs. The blaze tore through the house in the early hours Sunday morning.
Neighbors recall waking up in the middle of the night to a house completely engulfed in flames.
"The window was an orange glow from the flame and the fire truck had just pulled up outside of our house," said Cris Stevens.
Video shot by a bystander captures the blaze just minutes after Bonita fire rescue arrived.. those who live on and around Harold street rushed to the scene.
"We just saw flames! More smoke than flames.. and we just sort of stood out there for a half hour and just watched," Benji Adams recalled.
Nobody was home at the time the fire broke out.. one of the people who lives there said they returned home from the store to find the smoke and flames coming out of the house.
The state fire marshal is looking in to the cause... but investigators are calling it suspicious, prompting firefighters to combat with caution.
"With added information from the fire department we were concern. It was fully involved so we went into defensive attack," said battalion chief Barry Brown.
Neighbors say people come and go from the home at all hours of the night.. and they have their own speculations as to what may have caused the fire.
"Probably some kind of drugs maybe. Not the best things go on in that house.. there is a lot of traffic coming in and out of there," said Chastity Wagner.
No one was injured when the fire broke out. The house is considered a total loss..
The state fire marshal told WINK news that if she suspected the fire was drug-related, the Lee County sheriff's office would be called.
Several deputies did visit the scene but could not confirm whether they were joining the investigation.
