SANIBEL, Fla. -- Sanibel Island is celebrating the season with an annual tradition. The Luminary Festival 2011 is lighting local businesses.
The sun is down, but it's certainly bright on Sanibel, thanks to thousands of candles light that light Periwinkle Way. We're told it took at least two months of preparation for this event.
It's an effort to bring people here to attract them to look inside local businesses.
The candles were lit around five this evening. Tourists from all over the world come to Sanibel for this event. It's made possible by one hundred volunteers. The goal is to encourage people to buy local.
Some businesses are already seeing a boost in sales.
