NAPLES, Fla.- People are being told to "shop on" along 5th Avenue South in downtown Naples.  Stores are staying open through renovations.

Six businesses between East Lake Drive and 5th Street South are getting a modern makeover.

The facades will be renovated over the next few weeks with no interruption to store hours.

The property owner, Phil McCabe, who also owns the Inn on 5th, says the construction is a sign the area is finally recovering after years of decline and last year's gulf oil spill.

"In 15 years the hotel had the highest occupancy it ever had during the month of November, and I think if you went to some of our merchants on the street you would get similar stories; that they're having their best year ever," said McCabe.

Work has also started on a large-scale construction project directly across from the inn.

McCabe says the 3-story building will be home to J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, club suites for the Inn on 5th, and womens' retailers.

Construction at 5th Avenue South and Park Street should be finished by November 2012.
