COLLIER COUNTY, FLa.- Collier County deputies arrested a debt collector they say was posing as a deputy to get people to pay up.

Angel Rosado who has a criminal history was booked yesterday on charges he impersonated a law enforcement officer.  A convicted felon, Rosado is also charged with carrying a firearm.

Rosado is contracted by check cashing agency Cash Plus on Golden Gate Parkway in Naples.  According to management there, Rosado works on commission as a collections agent.

Rosado's arrest report alleges he went to great lengths.  It says, "He [Rosado] was wearing a black shirt with a gold star on the front and a belt which contained a gun in a holster, a police radio, and handcuffs."

The arrest report names one woman, Cynthia Daniels, who used to work at a Dollar Tree on Golden Gate Parkway.According to reports, Rosado had his handcuffs out and was threatening to handcuff Daniels. Daniels was scared and crying and was attempting to call family members in an attempt to borrow money so she would not go to jail.

"People were frightened, however they did owe money so they assumed that this was in fact a legitimate collection person," said Sergeant Brian Sawyer.

An investigation was launched when an employee at Pei Wei on Vanderbilt Beach Road in Naples got suspicious.  When Rosado couldn't provide a badge number, he called the Collier County Sheriffs Office.

"Many of us have to wear plain clothes through our job, but with that we still carry a badge, a gun, handcuffs, but also the photo identification.  We're going to be happy to verify at any point in time,"said Sergeant Sawyer.

If you think you've encountered Rosado in his deputy garb, you should call Collier County investigators at (239) 252-9300.

Rosado is scheduled to be arraigned on December 12th.
