ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - A video made public by prosecutors shows a crying 16-year-old boy confessing to the fatal shooting of a St. Petersburg police officer in February.
The police interview with Nicholas Lindsey recorded a day after the shooting is a key piece of evidence in the first-degree murder case against him. He has pleaded not guilty to killing Officer David S. Crawford on a downtown street.
During the interview, Lindsey is huddled in a corner and tearfully pleads, "I'm sorry....Mom, Daddy, I'm sorry," to his parents who are urging him to tell the truth.
Lindsey says he was trying to steal a car and fired at the officer because he was scared and didn't want to go to jail.
The St. Petersburg Times (http://bit.ly/sIl5CQ ) reported on the release of the video Friday.
