ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The trial of the former chair of the Republican Party of Florida is set for next July.
A prosecutor, defense attorney and judge settled on July 30 as the start of the two-week trial during a brief hearing Friday.
The start of the trial will be more than two years after Greer was charged with steering nearly $200,000 of party money toward a fundraising firm he had formed with a top aide while keeping his interest in the company a secret.
He has pleaded not guilty and says he is the victim of party conservatives who turned against then-Gov. Charlie Crist, Greer's political benefactor.
Attorneys wanted the trial to start after the legislative session, given that legislative leaders are expected to testify.
