LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A local charity is getting a big boost thanks to a popular supermarket chain. Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry counties is going into the holidays with plenty to celebrate. Fifty thousand reasons to celebrate to be exact.

Habitat for Humanity will be able to rehab and build a home, thanks to another generous donation from Publix.

Publix supermarkets charities presented the check in front of one of the Habitat homes currently under construction in Bonita Springs. In total, it's donated $550,000 to the Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry counties. The grocery chain also made similar presentations Tuesday, donating $52,000 to the Habitat of Collier and $22,000 to the organization in Charlotte County.

Habitat has its hands full. In addition to this home, it's wrapping up work on four other properties that will all be dedicated and turned over to some well-deserving families within the next week. They say the need is at a peak right now and at its last orientation more than 600 families showed up. Habitat will only be able to place about 10 to 12 percent of them in homes of their own.
