LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- A Lehigh Acres man says he's thankful to be alive after four masked men stormed his home Monday night and robbed him at gunpoint.

The violent home invasion happened last night on 30th Street SW, just off State Road 82.

In mere minutes, Woody Wommack's life was turned upside down.

"Two guys with ski masks and guns came through the door. They were about 5'8 so I thought I could push them back out the door," Wommack said Tuesday.

Then, two more men stormed in. They pistol whipped Wommack, zip-tied his hands behind his back, and demanded money and drugs.

"They said if we find one thing that you didn't tell us about we're going to blow your head off," he said.

Wommack, who works as a sports reporter for the Naples Daily News, was repeatedly beaten by the men as they ransacked his house for valuables. They eventually took off and Wommack found strength to break free.

"I got up and I used behind my hands to lock the door to the garage and then I got a knife out of the drawer to cut the ties off," Wommack said.

Neighbors say it's just the latest of a string of break-in's in the normally quiet, Lehigh Acres neighborhood.

"I'm terrified because I come home at 2, 3 o'clock in the morning. Imagine how I would feel. Not knowing who's out here hiding in the woods, or what they're capable of doing or is anyone following me?" neighbor Enedelia Garcia said Tuesday.

The robbers took off with most of Wommack's electronics and personal items like hard drives, and house and car keys.

He says he's just thankful to be alive.

"Seemed to me that they were looking for something specific and they came to the wrong place. I learned a lesson about living in this area, I'll definitely move," Wommack said.

Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crime. If you have any information, you're asked to call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
