PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- A Port Charlotte golf course is on high alert after a number of dead and mutilated cats have turned up on the fairway.

Employees at the Port Charlotte Country Club stumbled upon the horrific scene Tuesday night, while mowing the grass on the golf course.

This is the fourth dead cat to turn up in the area since September. All of the animals have appeared to be mutilated in the same calculated manner with what investigators believe to be an Exacto knife. Golf pro's say two out of the four animals were found in the same area, around the fairway near the fourteenth hole. Golfers out on the course say they want answers.

"Well, I don't like it very much. I wish they'd catch the guy that's doing that because it's going to be a problem later on," said Robert Roger, a golfer on the course Wednesday.

The Country Club does have surveillance cameras on the building, but the area where the cats were found is out of the camera's reach. The course is stepping up patrols at night.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the Charlotte Country Sheriff's Office at 941-639-2101 or leave an anonymous tip with Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.
