COLLIER COUNTY, Fla -- The Naples community is showing their support for a Naples marine who lost his leg last week while serving our country.

Lance Corporal Jonathan Carnes graduated from Gulf Coast High School in 2009. That is where dozens gathered Wednesday night.

Messages of hope, encouragement and best wishes fill cards, letters and posters all for Jonathan Carnes.

"He's a real warm hearted guy, funny, fun to hang around with, real strong. Just a well rounded guy," says Jeff Steuber, a classmate and teammate of Carnes.

Teammates, classmates, firefighters, friends and even strangers came to Gulf Coast High School to send Carnes their best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Gretchen Church never knew Carnes, but came to show her support for him anyway. "When something like this happens, we need to come out as a community and rally around that family," says Church.

Last week Carnes stepped on an IED in Afghanistan. He lost his lower right leg and fractured his left leg.

Wednesday night, this special event was filled with prayer, moments of silence and encouraging words for Carnes that will be delivered right to him. Longtime friend Heather St. John organized tonights rally and plans to send a video and all the well wishes to Carnes in the coming days.

"The encouragement has been amazing from everyone here. From people here, fellow marines, people in California, people he doesn't know, people I don't know. People in Washington state. It's just been an out pour of support from everyone," St. John said.
