TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Senate President Mike Haridopolos admitted during a deposition that he lied to a reporter last year when he denied knowing about a secret settlement with former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer.

Haridopolos testified last week that he didn't tell a Miami Herald (http://bit.ly/tdAHu9) reporter "the whole story" during an April 2010 interview. At the time, he said there were no agreements with Greer, who claims he was forced to leave his position following politically motivated fraud charges.

Haridopolos now says he wasn't truthful because he believed the agreement with Greer was confidential.

Greer is suing the Republican Party of Florida over an agreed $124,000 severance he says the party never paid him. His attorney suggested the fraud charges were an attempt by the party to avoid paying the severance.
