FORT MYERS, Fla.- Members of the Lee County Sheriff's Office Explorer program are working to make Thanksgiving a little happier for those in need. The Explorers spent three days in front of the Wal Mart at 14821 Six Mile Cypress Parkway collecting non-perishable food. The group collected more than 1,000 pounds of food which will be delivered to the Harry Chapin Food Bank in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Explorer Program is designed for teens 14-21 years of age interested in a career in law enforcement. Explorers receive hands-on training by experienced law enforcement personnel which instills responsibility, leadership, teamwork, initiative and self-reliance. The Explorer Post interacts with other youth and adults and community organizations and participates in various law enforcement and community events. The food collection drive was part of the group's desire to interact and contribute to those less fortunate in Lee County.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office Explorer program currently has 32 members.
