NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a double homicide after the discovery of two bodies off Pondella Road in North Fort Myers.

A passerby discovered one of the bodies on Saturday morning; the remains of the adult male in the grass off the sidewalk on the south side of Pondella Road, across from the intersection of Landsdale Drive.  The victim was found wearing only his underwear.  After setting up a crime scene, deputies soon discovered a second adult male behind the closed businesses in the area.

Detectives are still working to identify the victims and determine causes of death.  The medical examiner will perform autopsies.

Authorities aren't saying how the men were killed, but neighbor Jerry Day says he was awakened overnight.

"I heard a gunshot, and then I heard a car taking off, really smoking his tires, down Pondella Road," said Day.

Pondella Road was closed for several hours on Saturday morning during the investigation, but has since re-opened.  Nearby on Moody Road, investigators combed for clues after a suspicious vehicle was reported.

"The individuals appear to have arrived here and met an unfortunate end," said Lt. Larry King with the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Jackie Donaldson had a busy Saturday morning planned at her beauty salon near the crime scene. But she and her customers were left waiting.

"The street is blocked off, my business is right over there and I have no idea what's going on," said Donaldson.
