FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Two Fort Lauderdale police officers are facing multiple felony charges for allegedly stealing cash and pills from pain clinic patrons.

Prosecutors said Friday that detectives Brian Dodge and Billy Koepke are charged with racketeering, official misconduct, kidnapping, grand theft and extortion. Both will be placed on house arrest after their release on bail.

Authorities say the pair made traffic stops of pain clinic patrons sometimes without probable cause. If the car contained a lot of cash and pills, the officers allegedly made up criminal charges and then kept a portion for themselves.

The investigation began when video from a motel surveillance camera contradicted their version of one arrest.

Attorneys for the two officers declined comment Friday.

Two other officers have been suspended but not charged in the case.
