FORT MYERS, Fla.- WINK News has learned a new contractor has been chosen to take over the Metro Parkway expansion project. Work on expanding Metro from Six Mile Cypress to U.S. 41, south of Alico Road, has been on hold since May when Posen Construction was taken off the project.

WINK News has learned C.W. Roberts will now be in charge of expanding Metro Parkway. The decision was made by a Surety company last night.

C.W. Roberts has an office in Fort Myers and the Florida Department of Transportation says the company is on its approved bidder list and has done work in the area before.

F.D.O.T. pulled Posen off the project in May saying the company was not staying on schedule or paying its subcontractor on time. F.D.O.T. says taxpayers will not be on the hook for any more money than was originally budgeted. Metro Parkway expansion was originally set to be complete by March. At this point, it's not clear if C.W. Roberts will be able to meet that deadline.
