PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Charlotte County is the latest part of Southwest Florida to feel the rippling effects of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Dozens of protesters gathered Tuesday on the steps of the old Punta Gorda court house to show their support for the Occupy movement. The protesters started gathering at about noon outside of Congressman Rooney's office.

They carried signs asking for job creation and higher taxes for the wealthy.

The rally was organized in part to show emotional support for the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Organizers say they hope the peaceful movement will move citizens into pressuring community leaders into action.

WINK News contacted Congressman Rooney's office to see if they had a comment about the protest, but as of 4 p.m., they still have not responded.
