LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The sex offender who fled from a Lee County deputy Friday morning has been captured.
At approximately 9:00 am on October 21, 2011, a Lee County deputy was conducting an investigation at 8356 Mantanzas Road in reference to a sexual offender failing to comply with his sanctions. When the deputy attempted to place Earl Ziesmer (DOB 6-19-70) under arrest for the violation, Ziesmer fled into a large field with thick brush.
Deputies immediately set up a perimeter and K-9 and Aviation Units were utilized. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol also responded to assist.
Due to the recent heavy rains, the field was flooded limiting the ability of responding deputies to enter the area. The search was called off at approximately 4:00 pm.
At approximately 8:30 pm, detectives received information that Ziesmer was at a residence at 8360 Mantanzas Road (the neighboring house to where he was encountered earlier in the day). After a brief struggle, Ziesmer was taken into custody and arrested.
In addition to the felony charge he initially faced of failing to comply with his sex offender sanctions, Ziesmer also faces charges of resisting arrest. More charges are possible.
