CAPE CORAL, Fla.- On Sunday at 1:30am, Cape Coral Police were dispatched to the area of 1000 NE Van Loon Terrace for a suspicious person complaint. The caller saw a male walking on NE 10th Place at the intersection of Van Loon Terrace.

The caller saw the suspect, later identified as Jared Penner, walk up into the driveway of 1012 NE Van Loon Terrace and open the door of a Nissan Altima and enter the car. The caller then saw Penner walk west on NE Van Loon Terrace.

As officers arrived in the neighborhood, Penner took off running. Officer Brian Aponte and his K9 Kevin arrived on the scene and began to track for Penner. Penner was seen running between houses in an attempt to avoid capture. K9 Kevin was hot on Penner’s trail and located him at in the 900 Block of Hancock Bridge Pkwy.

Penner admitted to police that he committed the burglary. Jared Penner was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Conveyance and Resisting an Officer w/o Violence.

“Our K9 Unit has proven invaluable over the years. Another textbook apprehension, this is why they put in hundreds of training hours in throughout the year,” said Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
