LAKE WALES, Fla. (AP) - Officials in central Florida say heavy rain has caused portions of a road to wash out, stranding about 150 people in Westgate River Ranch Resort.

Polk County authorities say the damaged River Ranch Boulevard is the only way in or out of the Lake Wales resort. They are asking residents to stay put for now. No evacuations have been ordered.

They say more than a half-mile of the road is covered in about seven inches of water. Damage can't be assessed until the water subsides.

County officials say they have an emergency services unit and a truck from the Polk County Fire Department on the resort side of the road to assist anyone who needs help. An airboat is also at the scene to provide emergency transportation.
