CAPE CORAL, Fla. - On the day marking ten years of fighting overseas, Spc. Michael Araujo got his medical discharge papers, bringing his time in the active military to an end.

In 2009, Araujo was severely injured, losing his left leg and nearly dying after a roadside bomb exploded while he was on patrol in Afghanistan.

Friday, loved ones hung banners and planted American flags in their lawn to welcome him home. Araujo made his last trip from his station in Fort Stewart, Ga. to his home in Cape Coral Friday afternoon, where his family waited to surprise him.

WINK News cameras were there for the long-awaited homecoming.
