FT. MYERS, Fla - It's the end of an era for the Miracle Mile Post Office in Fort Myers. After 40-plus years of operation, the office is closing amid the agency's mounting financial struggles.

The post office is going to be consolidated with the Page Field Post Office. Your personal mail service will not be affected. If you have a PO Box, that number will be moved to Page Field.

The Miracle Mile Post Office is a building rich with history. "We needed a location to grow into, and the Miracle Mile Facility was actually built for the postal service," said Postmaster Anne Murray.

It opened for business as a post office in 1968. For many here like Adele Davies, it's hard to say goodbye.

"I read that it was going to close but, yeah, its just a handy little place for us to come," said Davies.

Postmaster Anne Murray says Miracle Mile will be consolidated with Page Field's Post Office. "You know, finding where we can be more efficient, where we can provide the same level of service, without having to have the additional expenses of duplication of services," she said.

Carriers and clerks will keep their jobs. If you have a P.O. Box here you will get to keep your number, but you'll have to go to Page Field.

While some blame the government for the closure, others say they wont be affected.

"It's close enough I can use it or use the downtown, I live in between. so I go one way or the other," said Nicholas Trevisani.

But many agree the closure is bittersweet.

"For our business and for our organization for our customers at keeping prices at an affordable rate, it's the right thing to do," said Murray.

The future of the building is uncertain.
