FORT MYERS, Fla. - There was a reported explosion at a vehicle body shop in Fort Myers. Firefighters, police, and rescue crews raced to the scene near the intersection of Evans Avenue and Willard Street. The blast set off the inferno around 9:00p.m.
Witnesses say the noise alone caused them to race out and see what happened. Several people heard a big explosion and saw flames.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames inside the body shop within an hour. The concern of a hazardous environment forced police to block off the surrounding streets. The smell of burnt rubber and fumes filled the air.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
