CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The beach was pretty bare Thursday afternoon, even before the rains. Yellow signs were scattered along the sand putting beach goers on alert to stay away from the water. However, the signs are coming down. The beach at the Cape Coral Yacht Club is back open for swimmers.

Earlier, Health Department testing had shown levels of bacteria were high enough to make beach goers ill.

Dr. Judith Hartner of the Lee County Department of Health said swimming during advisory periods could cause a number of symptoms.

"If you have open wounds you could get infections in those wounds. Some people get ear infections. Especially children if they swallow the water," Dr. Hartner said.

But for now, it's just time to have fun.

Testing will resume on Monday.
