LEE COUNTY, Fla.- A Clewiston man was arrested after troopers say he tailgated a Lee County school bus, then tried to climb on board.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 49-year-old Michael John Horner was arrested shortly before 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. He was stopped at the intersection of Palm Beach Blvd. and Orange River Blvd.

Troopers say the school bus driver called for help after Horner had been following too closely. The driver reported stopping the bus at one point, after which Horner got out of his truck and opened the bus's rear door.

"The subject did try to get on the bus," says Trooper Joseph Bowers, with FHP.

The school bus sped off, with Horner still following.

According to troopers, Horner was intoxicated and had an unloaded rifle in his truck. Authorities are still trying to figure out his intentions, saying there were two kids on the school bus at the time, but neither were related to him.

"Sometimes a domestic-related incident could occur, but this didn't seem to be that," says Trooper Bowers. "For some unknown reason, the subject wanted to get on the bus."
