COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Only on WINK: Some scary moments in a Collier County neighborhood after a car slams into a little boy.  It happened at 1730 Sunshine Blvd. just before 7:30 p.m.. Friday.

Good news is the little boy is expect to be fine.  Witnesses told WINK News the boy ran across the road and into the direct line of oncoming traffic.  People who live here hope it's a lesson for drivers in the area.

It's a parent's worst nightmare, a child playing in the neighborhood gets hit by a car.  Neighbors said the car was driving the speed limit.

"The kid just ran over here and I don't know he just got hit by the back," said Diego Diaz, a neighbor.

People who live in the neighborhood said it's a busy area and kids are always playing in the yards nearby.  They said the accident could have been much worse and hope it serves as a lesson for drivers.

"Always keep an eye on the road and to go under the speed limit.  If anything, they can hit breaks and stop before something like this happens again," said Diaz.

The road was shut down for about a half hour as investigators worked to piece together exactly what happened.  Deputies told WINK News the boy didn't have any major injuries but was transported to the hospital as a precaution.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office turned over the investigation to the Florida Highway Patrol.  No word if the driver will face any charges.
