COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Golden Gate Estates family in Collier County is thankful they weren't hurt after lightning struck their house Friday night.

It happened just before 6 p.m. off 6th Avenue SE.  The damage was done to an electrical outlet outside and fire crews had to tear through part of the inside to make sure there wasn't more damage.

With Florida being the lightning capital of the world, crews said lightning can strike anywhere.

"The best thing to do if you know your house is hit, call 911.  If you think there is a fire in the house or you can isolate it, turn the breakers off and then leave the house and let the fire department come out and check it out," said Andy Krajewski, Battalion Chief, Golden Gate Fire Department.

Homeowners told WINK News it was a year ago Friday that the same home burned to the ground in a different fire.  No word yet on the amount of damage from the lightning strike.
