CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Tylar Dobbins' body is still in China weeks after his death. But his best friend who was with the teen says he's closer to being laid to rest.
Kody Yates and Dobbins were teaching English in China when he died suddenly. Chinese shipping agents told his mother they wouldn't send his body back unless she paid $20,000.
Yates was able to negotiate with funeral homes and get that number cut in half. Because of help from the community, the Dobbins family has enough money to send his body home.
But the families are still waiting on red tape. Yates says the consolate in Hong Kong is waiting on the proper paperwork to release him. The families are making funeral plans for October.
