CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Gulf Middle School students sustained minor injuries, Friday morning, after a school bus accident in Cape Coral.

Just after 10 a.m., the accident occured at the intersection of Southwest 17th Place and Southwest 34th Street, involving only the bus and a pickup truck.

Seventeen of the students were transported to area hospitals, complaining of head and neck pain.

Four children were taken to Cape Coral Hospital, six were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital and seven were taken to HealthPark Medical Center.

The investigation determined that the driver of the truck, Maria Pacifico Silvano, 49, ran a stop sign and travelled into the path of the bus. The driver of the truck was cited for failure to yield the right of way. 

All of the students have been released from the hospitals.
