PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives report a Port Charlotte man wanted on a warrant for Attempted Second Degree Murder, was arrested in Lauderhill (Broward County) last Monday and transported to the Charlotte County Jail Thursday.
Major Crimes Unit detectives said Marvin Jerome Barton, 45, aka Jy Mujahid Shabazz, 3317 Depew Street, was wanted for a home invasion shooting incident over three months ago at 2008 Redmond Street in Port Charlotte. Three victims in the home told detectives they were robbed by two subjects at gunpoint. MCU detectives identified Norris Hubbard Jr.,31, 631 Fitzhugh Ave., Punta Gorda, as one of the two men involved. Hubbard was arrested May 31 at a home in Englewood at 1230 Maryknoll Road. Barton fled the area and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
MCU detectives said Hubbard and Barton went to the Port Charlotte home, and confronted one of the victims in the driveway. One male victim was struck with the butt of a revolver; he fell to the ground and was dragged into the home. The handgun was put to the victim’s head and also to his leg. Another victim was in a bedroom, the door was kicked open and she was forced on the floor with the other man. She too had the gun put to her head and threatened to kill her. The two wanted into the safe and a key was given to them. Hubbard took about $700 from the male victim’s pockets, plus over $1,000 in money orders in his wallet, and a $5,000 watch. Approximately $2,000 was stolen from the safe. Another male victim said Hubbard pointed the gun and shot at him four times; the victim was not hit and ran out of the home.
