NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Volusia County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man they say tried to pull an armed boat-jacking on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Authorities say the would-be buyer contacted the boat owner after seeing an ad on Craigslist. The men met about noon Wednesday and took the 16-foot Savage Creek Classic boat on a test cruise.

While the 37-year-old victim was driving through shallow water, he saw the man pull a gun. The two scuffled and fell into the shallow water.

Deputies say the boat's owner was able to get away and swam to shore, where he flagged down a passing boater. The suspect took off in the boat, which was later recovered in New Smyrna Beach.

The sheriff's office asks anyone with information to call 386-423-3301.
