FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Fort Myers Police Department arrested a suspect for a shooting that happened in an apartment on Washington Avenue last week.

Police arrested Fernando Gutierrez, 20, of Fort Myers, for Aggravated Battery, Tampering with Evidence, and Improper Display of a Firearm.

On Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 10:33 a.m. police responded to 3935 Washington Avenue. Upon arrival officers located Jazmine Ramirez, 19, of Fort Myers, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital. Ramirez survived the shooting.

The investigation revealed that Ramirez, Gutierrez and two other friends were in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Gutierrez was improperly handling a gun when he threatened to shoot Ramirez. In response, Ramirez dared Gutierrez to do it. Gutierrez pointed the black 9mm handgun directly at Ramirez and fired the weapon.

The investigation is ongoing. One more arrest is pending in the case.
