Fort Myers Police investigate shooting

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Police are investigating a shooting that took place around 6 a.m. Monday in the 2400 block of Royal Palm Avenue.

Before they arrived, police discovered the victim had been transported by a family member to Lee Memorial Hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Officers say the victim is 18-year-old Malik Gary.

WINK News spoke with Gary’s grandmother, Brenda Moore, who says “He’s doing okay I guess, you know as far as I know of.” She goes on to say, “As far as I know he was getting ready to go to school.”

Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians actively worked the crime scene for about three hours, including canvassing the area for witnesses.
