PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is taking registrations now for the next one-day only “Self-Defense for Women” class. The free course will be held Thursday, Sep. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Port Charlotte Beach Recreation Center, 4500 Harbor Blvd. in Port Charlotte. The course is offered by CCSO, Charlotte County Community Services, and Shuman’s ATA Black Belt Academy.

This program is offered to women ages 18 and older and is for Charlotte County residents only. The method of stun and run will be taught with emphasis on locating different pressure points that can help a woman get away from an attacker, including easy practical self-defense. Participants are to dress in comfortable workout type clothing; no shorts please. Wear soft sole closed toe shoes, and remove all jewelry.

All participants must sign a registration release waiver form to participate in the class; deadline to accept registration is Sep. 19. A photo ID will be required to be shown at check-in time. Also, registrants do not pay for parking; they will receive a parking pass when checking in.
