FORT MYERS, Fla.- Officers with the Fort Myers Police Department arrested two people for attempting to steal metal from a local business.

On Wednesday, just before midnight, police received a noise complaint in the area of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Jacksonville Street. The caller said she could hear loud noises as if someone were banging metal objects together.

The first officer arrived on scene and could hear the same thing. Upon reaching the far northeast corner of 2137 Jacksonville Street, the officer spotted two suspects placing items into the trunk of a car. As the officer approached the suspects, one of them took off running, the other stayed on scene.

After a short pursuit, police detained both suspects. Further investigation revealed the two had forced-up the bottom of a chain link fence that surrounds Work Space Plus, the business located at the address. The suspects were crawling underneath the fence to steal metal from the business. Large pieces of metal and burglary tools were found in their vehicle.

Police arrested Levi Westberry, 26, of North Fort Myers, and Matthew Sharp, 25, of Cape Coral, for burglary, loitering and prowling, and possession of burglary tools
