CAPE CORAL, Fla.- New developments are being uncovered in the death of a Cape Coral child left in a hot car.

His parents remain behind bars, charged in connection with their son's death.

Kathleen Jennings and Michael Clark were arrested Tuesday.

According to police, they left their 1-year-old son in the car, where he later died.

The two appeared before a judge Wednesday morning.

The Judge set Kathleen Jennings's bail at $65,000.

Michael Clark's bail is set at $75,000.

The two appeared via closed circuit camera from the Lee County Jail.

They're both charged with child neglect causing bodily harm.

On July 31, police say the two parents left their 1-year-old son Marquel Clark in the car.

It happened outside the couple's Cape Coral home on Vincennes Street.

It's unclear how long Marquel was in the car, but police say a neighbor found him in his car seat and he was reportedly not breathing.

Jennings and Clark rushed him to Cape Coral hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Family members say this is a tragic accident.

Ricky Freeman, Michael's step-father, said it's a situation where one parent thought the other had the child.

Freeman adds Kathleen Jennings and Michael Clark loved their son.

The family admits both Kathleen and Michael have had several previous run-ins with the law, but say the two were getting their lives back on track.

Kathleen Jennings has been arrested for petty theft.

Michael Clark has been arrested on a number of drug related charges.

A Spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Families says they have investigated the couple on two previous occassions for substance abuse issues.

Clark and Jennings have three other children.

DCF has removed them from the home.

We're told they are staying with family members.
