FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Port Charlotte couple was arrested Sunday at Chuck E. Cheese's after several people thought they seemed too impaired to care for their child.

26-year-old Sandy Diehl and 40-year-old Brian Frederick both face child neglect charges. Diehl is also charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

Witnesses noticed the pair's strange behavior while they were eating in the children's restaurant with a young girl. Jacqueline Aponte was one of the people who saw the family and shot cell phone video.

"They were trying to eat pizza, they were missing their mouth -- going into their cheek," Aponte says.

Aponte says Diehl and Frederick both acted very lethargic. At one point her phone captures video of Frederick fumbling with the girl's sippy cup for about a minute, then he slumps over briefly. He gives up and walks away, leaving the child unattended.

Diehl was outside, walking around the parking lot "in a disoriented manner," according to the police report.

Several people inside the business alerted managers, who then called police.

Aponte says she worried the couple were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

"They were very sluggish, falling asleep, eyes bloodshot," she says.

According to the police report, the officer responding to the call found roxicodone, Xanax, and a straw with white residue on it inside Diehl's purse.

The pair was released from the Lee County Jail Monday.
