COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.-  For a lot of people change can be good, at least that's the lesson new superintendent Dr. Kamela Patton is trying to teach.

Dr. Patton toured several schools this morning. At noon, she was at East Naples Middle School, checking out the classrooms and watching the teaching style. This school is one of several in the school district with a new prinicpal. Dr. Patton believes this brings a whole new level on enery and fresh ideas to the classroom.

Other changes this year include the grading system in elementary schools, new graduation requirements for 9th graders and of course Dr. Patton herself. This is her first job as a superintendent of a school district. She says the new school year is off to a  great start. There were no hiccups this morning and if the school district were put to the test, she gives the first day of school an "A" and already loves her new job.

Another upcoming change this school year is the "Be There" campaign. That's an effort to get parents more involved in their child's academics. The campaign will roll out in a few weeks.
