PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - A fundraiser for a boy badly burned after playing with a lit gasoline container raises thousands for his family, and that's just the beginning.

9 year old Logan Nelson continues to recover in a Cincinnatti, OH hospital with 2nd degree burns to 80% of his body.

A fundraiser was held Saturday at Beef O'Brady's in Punta Gorda to help raise money for the family's continually growing expenses.

Over $4,000 was collected between donations and silent a silent auction during the event ran by complete strangers to Logan.

"I personally don't know him but he's in our community, and the community has come out tremendously and helped out," said Brandi Hendrickson.

The restaurant is also donating 20% of all profits collected from food and beverage sales.

If you'd like to donate, monetary collections can be sent to:

Another stranger to Logan, Lisa Flemming, is also planning a 'kids day' fundraiser on September 3rd.

Flemming is hoping to raise money for the boy's family while educating local youth about fire safety.

"I talked to him yesterday and he could barely talk but he told me he loves me," said Logan's grandfather Douglas Nelson.

Nelson says his grandson could return to southwest Florida within the next 3 weeks.
