ESTERO, Fla.- Faculty and staff at Florida Gulf Coast University are celebrating the beginning of a new school year at their annual Welcome Back celebration.
University president, Wilson Bradshaw, is the keynote speaker of the event.
President Wilson Bradshaw says this year is full of positive changes. The univeristy has a record enrollment this fall semester of 13,000 students and expansions of both buildings and staff.
In fact, a portion of the Tuesday's event was dedicated to meeting the new faculty and staff, which was more than 100 people.
President Bradshaw also celebrated the news F.G.C.U. is now a Division-1 athletics program. This fall semester is also the first year, the university will offer a Doctorate program for Education.
President Bradshaw says it speaks volumes about the state of university that they were able to grow during tough economic times. The university did have to raise tuitiion over the past few years, so that is one downside.
Classes at F.G.C.U. start on Monday.
