WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says detectives are investigating after a deputy shot an inmate who was in custody at a hospital.
Investigators say that on Sunday afternoon an inmate in the custody of the sheriff's office at Wellington Regional Hospital got into an altercation with a deputy who was assigned to guard him.
They say the deputy shot the inmate in the leg after the inmate tried to escape.
The inmate's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
