LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - Crews in Lehigh are still working on a massive house fire at this hour. Mid-Wednesday afternoon, smoke and flames were shooting from 745 Mirror Lakes Drives.

The exact cause is still a mystery to both the firefighters and the woman who lives there. Marianela Hernandez says she only left for a short time to get dinner with her kids. When she came home, she couldn't believe her eyes.

"We left to grab a quick bite to eat and when we got back everything was on fire," Hernandez said. "I didn't cook anything, didn't leave anything on the stove."

The 911 call from a neighbor came in just before 3:30 p.m. Flames gutted the large structure on, collapsing the roof, and destroying 7 years of memories for her family.

"A crew went inside briefly to start doing a search but within a couple minutes, the fire had vented through the roof and it really became unsafe for crews to be on the inside," Lehigh Fire Incident Commander Matt Kreft said.

Luckily, no one was home at the time, except for a German Shepherd and her 7 puppies, born over the weekend. Crews safely rescued the canine family before being forced to fight the flames from the outside.

"We couldn't believe our eyes how big the fire was. It looks like a total loss," Eugen Borosch, the homeowner said.

Hernandez is thankful no one was hurt, but worried about where she and her family will live.

"I don't know what we're going to do," Hernandez said. "This is the only home we have."

Finding what sparked it could take investigators some time because of the massive size of this home. Officials say it's about 5 times the size of an average home in lehigh.
They likely won't begin their investigation until the sun comes up.
