DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Police say a man pulled off two armed robberies in the Daytona Beach area on his birthday.

Daytona Beach police arrested Charles W. Shellings Tuesday after receiving a tip that he was responsible for the convenience store robberies on Sunday, the day he turned 31.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Shellings is charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Police say Shellings continually tried to cut a store clerk with a knife during one of the robberies. Arrest reports state that the clerk ran behind the counter, grabbed a baseball bat and hit the suspect several times. Shellings then took the bat and hit the clerk before stabbing him in the neck.

Police say clerks at both stores picked Shellings out of a lineup.
