KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - One person has died and two others were seriously injured after fire officials said a transformer exploded at a central Florida utility substation.
Kissimmee Utility Authority spokesman Chris Gent told the Orlando Sentinel a contractor was doing work on the new transformer when she was killed by the blast Saturday. Two other employees were hospitalized with second and third-degree burns. The victims have not been identified.
Officials said thousands of gallons of oil are still burning and nearby streets remain closed.
No customers lost power during the explosion. The utility company is investigating what happened to the transformer which was installed a few months ago.
