TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The head of the Republican National Committee says next year's convention is going to be a bigger event than a Super Bowl.
The RNC is holding its summer meetings in Tampa. Party Chairman Reince Priebus said Wednesday that members from around the country will begin scoping out hotels, restaurants and nightclubs for when they return with their delegations next August.
Priebus said Tampa Bay can expect 45,000 people arriving for the convention and they'll spend $175 million.
He said at a news conference in Tampa that "this is a Super Bowl times four."
While not the only factor in choosing a host city, Florida's 29 electoral votes will play a huge role in deciding the presidency. Having the convention in Tampa will give the nominee that much more attention.
