ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Tampa Bay-area sheriff's deputies say they shot two pit bulls, killing one, after one officer was attacked.
A resident called authorities Wednesday morning and said three large pit bulls and a few puppies were running loose in the neighborhood and trying to get inside the resident's home.
Upon arrival, one Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy was attacked by one dog and a second deputy shot that dog. A second pit bull then charged a deputy and both officers fired at the second dog. One animal is dead, the other is being treated and a third was captured.
The deputy who was attacked was treated for scratches and leg puncture wounds.
Animal services and detectives are investigating.
