LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Family friends say 4-year-old Zander Carman is alert in a Tampa hospital and talking to relatives.
Zander's godmother tells WINK News it was touch and go the last few days after the boy was hit while riding his bike feet from his home. Zander is still in intensive care a day after doctors removed a bolt from his head.
We're told he is conscious and is speaking with family and friends.
Zander was hit Wednesday after riding his bicycle onto the path of a pick up truck near his home on 29th Street Southwest.
F.H.P. says the driver tried to avoid him, but was unable to.
It's unclear if speed played a role in wreck.
Zander suffered a broken collar bone and injuries to his head.
His godmother, Christina Lynk, is now trying to raise money to cover hospital costs.
She's going around town putting jars at restaurants asking for donations.
Charges against the driver of the truck are still pending.
