CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help identifying a would-be robber who thought he could bully a clerk into turning over the store's cash, but ended up being chased out of the store, with nothing more than the pepper spray he brought with him.

Shortly before noon on Saturday, July 16th, a white male entered the Citgo Food Mart at 805 Cape Coral Parkway E., Cape Coral.  As he approached the counter, he asked the clerk about cigarettes.  When the clerk turned around, the suspect pulled a canister from
his right shorts pocket and was looking at the item attempting to position it correctly. He then pointed what appeared to be a can of pepper spray at the clerk and demanded that he open the cash register. The clerk refused to comply, and even tried to swat the can out of the suspect's hands. The suspect fired a line of spray into the clerk's face and shoulder area, then took off empty handed - with the clerk chasing immediately behind him before retreating to call police.

The suspect is described as between 5'9" and 5'11", with short brown hair, a thin build, wearing a plain white shirt, light colored shorts and a camo hat. Anyone with information on the identity of this man is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). All
callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at, through the Tip Submit app on any iPhone or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
