BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man visiting from Chicago drowned while swimming in the Braden River.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff's report, 38-year-old Michael Lester jumped off a boat dock Sunday morning and swam the width of the Braden River, which is about 60 feet across. As he swam back, he went under water and never resurfaced.

The sheriff's office dive team found Lester in about 20 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say Lester was staying with his girlfriend's parents near the river.
